Pacho's dedication to sustainability is accredited through multiple certifications and programs that reflect his commitment to both the planet and the prosperity of his community. Verdún proudly holds certifications from Fairtrade International and Fairtrade USA, ensuring that the coffee is grown under stringent standards that support social, economic, and environmental well-being. Additionally, the farm is certified by the Rainforest Alliance, emphasizing its adherence to rigorous agricultural and social criteria designed to preserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods.

Furthermore, Pacho’s involvement with the TreeHouse Intentional Sourcing and the 3E program by RGC Coffee highlights his proactive approach to enhancing the sustainability of coffee production. These initiatives are centered around empowering communities, preserving the environment, and ensuring economic viability for farmers.

Verdún Farm is more than just a location for coffee cultivation; it is a vibrant example of how traditional farming can harmoniously blend with innovative, responsible practices. Under Pacho’s guidance, the farm has transitioned to using 100% renewable energy for its coffee washing and drying processes, dramatically reducing its carbon footprint and water usage by 20%. This transformation is further supported by the planting of over 300 new shade trees, which not only contribute to the ecological balance necessary for high-quality coffee production but also provide critical habitat for local wildlife.

Moreover, Verdún is a key producer of Summit Grounds' Natural processed coffee. This specialty product is crafted using a method that omits the traditional washing process, allowing the coffee cherry to dry on the bean and impart a uniquely rich and fruity flavor profile. This process is not only environmentally friendly but also showcases the unique terroir of the Concordia region.

Pacho's commitment extends beyond the boundaries of his farm. He actively shares his knowledge and experiences with neighboring farms and the broader coffee community, encouraging a collective shift towards more sustainable practices. Through his leadership, Verdún serves as a model of innovation in sustainable agriculture, inspiring other coffee producers to embrace environmentally sound and socially responsible methods.

At Summit Grounds, we are proud to partner with visionaries like Don Francisco Javier Calle, whose relentless pursuit of improvement and sustainability is genuinely transforming the world of coffee. His efforts ensure that every cup of coffee not only tastes good but also contributes positively to the world, making a significant impact one bean at a time.
