Summit Grounds started as a dream, but itās quickly become a reality, deeply rooted in family tradition, passion, and a love for coffee. For me, itās more than just selling coffee. Itās about sharing a piece of my history, my roots, and creating something special for the community. Alongside my partner Eduardo, whose family has been involved in coffee growing for generations, weāre building something meaningful. And weāre bringing the authentic taste of Colombian coffee to Charleston, South Carolina, and beyond.

Discovering My Grandfatherās Legacy
The story of Summit Grounds starts on my familyās farm in Cundinamarca, Colombia. My grandfather, like so many others in the region, had planted coffee years ago. During the pandemic, while reconnecting with my family, I discovered that these coffee plants were still there, producing beansāthough no one had tended to them in years. This discovery was a spark. I realized that these beans, grown on the very land my grandfather cared for, could become something more. And so, Summit Grounds was born.
It felt like fateāsomething that had been waiting for the right moment to reveal itself. I knew then that I wanted to bring these coffee beans, grown with love and care, to people who appreciate a great cup of coffee.
My Partner Eduardoās Role in the Journey

Eduardo, my partner, is an integral part of this journey. His family has deep connections to the coffee industry in Colombia. Eduardo grew up surrounded by the coffee culture, and together, weāve made countless adventures through the Antioquia region, learning more about the coffee process and the people behind it. These trips have opened our eyes to the hard work and dedication of coffee growers, and weāve made it our mission to share their stories while paying them fairly for their craft.
Eduardo is responsible for selecting the coffee varieties we offer at Summit Grounds, drawing from his deep knowledge of Colombian coffee and family connections to the industry. He ensures each batch embodies the unique qualities of the region, with careful attention to flavor profiles and quality.
One of my favorite traditional coffees, Colombia Natural, is sourced directly from Eduardo's dadās farm. This particular variety carries the rich, fruity notes that make it truly special and brings the essence of Colombia to each cup.
Working side by side with Eduardo has made this adventure even more personal. Itās not just about starting a coffee businessāitās about honoring our families' legacies. Weāve had many conversations about what we want Summit Grounds to represent, and ultimately, itās about connecting people through the love of coffee and highlighting the beauty of Colombian culture.
What Makes Summit Grounds Special
At Summit Grounds, weāre offering more than just coffee; weāre sharing a piece of our story and inviting others to be a part of it. Hereās why I believe Summit Grounds is different from any other coffee brand:

1. Single-Origin Coffee, Direct from the Source
Ā Ā
Our beans are sourced directly from farmers in Colombia. Each batch is small, hand-picked, and grown at high altitudes, which results in a flavor profile thatās complex and unique. These arenāt mass-produced beans; they carry the essence of the land they come from, and I think thatās something truly special.
2. Sustainable Practices and Fair Wages
Ā Ā
From the very beginning, Eduardo and I have been committed to sustainability. Itās a value that both of our families have embraced, and weāve made sure that the farmers we work with are paid fairly for their hard work. Weāre not just selling coffee; weāre supporting communities and helping to preserve sustainable farming techniques that have been passed down for generations.
3. Multiple Brewing Methods
One thing that Iām especially proud of is how we showcase different brewing methods in our Coffee Experiences. Whether you prefer a V60 pour-over, the classic Chemex, or the artistic Syphon brew, Summit Grounds has something for every coffee lover. Each method brings out different aspects of the coffeeās flavor, and itās been fun to see how customers react when they experience something new.
4. Pop-Up Events and Community Connection
Ā Ā
Eduardo and I both believe that coffee is about community. Thatās why weāve started doing pop-up events at local venues. These events give us a chance to share our coffee with new people and create connections. Itās been amazing to watch the Summit Grounds community grow, not just through our gatherings but also our online coffee shop where people come together over a cup of coffee.
A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
Eduardo and I both come from families that have deep ties to traditional farming, but weāre not afraid to embrace modern technology and new ideas. For instance, weāve created an online store where people can purchase our coffee. Weāre also developing virtual coffee tastings, and an online hub where people can learn more about coffee.
This blend of tradition and innovation is at the heart of Summit Grounds. We respect the past, but weāre also excited about the future and how we can bring our vision of coffee culture to more people.
The Rise of Specialty Coffee Culture
The world of coffee is changing, and Iām thrilled that Summit Grounds is a part of that transformation. Coffee is no longer just something to grab on the way to work; itās become an experience, an art form. People are interested in where their coffee comes from, how itās made, and the stories of the people who grow it.
At Summit Grounds, weāre giving people exactly that. By offering single-origin coffee and different brewing methods, weāre inviting customers to take a deeper dive into their coffee experience. Itās been rewarding to see customers appreciate the effort we put into making each cup as special as possible.

Sustainability and Giving Back
One of the most important aspects of Summit Grounds is our commitment to sustainability. This isnāt just a buzzword for usāitās a core value. Coffee farming can have a significant impact on the environment, but by working closely with local farmers and encouraging sustainable practices, weāre doing our part to reduce that impact.
Eduardo and I have also made sure that the people who grow our coffee are paid fairly. In Colombia, coffee farming is often a familyās main source of income, and itās important to us that these families are supported. Weāve seen firsthand how hard these farmers work, and weāre determined to help them thrive.
The Summit Grounds Community
What started as a personal project has grown into something much bigger. Eduardo and I have been amazed at how quickly the Summit Grounds community has grown. Whether itās subcribers who come receive the montlhy coffee from our online shop or new faces we meet at our pop-up events, weāve built a community that loves coffee and values the same things we do.
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been seeing how coffee brings people together. Weāve helped celebrate birthdays, host business meetings, and even just to spend a quiet afternoon with a good book. Itās moments like these that remind me why I started Summit Grounds in the first placeāto create an experience where people can connect over a shared love of coffee.
The Future of Summit Grounds
Eduardo and I have big plans for the future. Weāre exploring new partnerships with local businesses, expanding our pop-up events, and finding new ways to bring our coffee to more people. Weāre also developing new blends and limited-edition products that reflect the seasons and the unique flavor profiles of our beans.
Long term, weād love to open a physical location and bring Summit Grounds to new cities. But no matter how much we grow, weāll always stay true to our roots and the values that got us hereāfamily, sustainability, and community.
Our Summit Together
Summit Grounds is more than just a coffee shop. Itās the product of a shared vision between Eduardo and me, inspired by our familiesā histories and the love we have for each other and for coffee. Itās been an incredible journey so far, and weāre excited to see where it takes us next.
Whether youāre a seasoned coffee aficionado or someone who just enjoys a good cup of coffee, I invite you to join us on this journey. Together, weāre building something thatās about more than just coffeeāitās about preserving a legacy, supporting a community, and sharing the love that goes into every single cup.
